Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi has been in Mexican custody since the beginning of April after the Marine allegedly attempted to enter Mexico with firearms in his car.

Tahmooressi says he failed to notice the signs leading up to the border and accidentally missed the final turn to stay on US soil.

Edward Snowden, Putin Propagandist || by Seth Mandel

PUTIN-VS-SNOWDEN

Back in September, I described Vladimir Putin’s op-ed in the New York Times, in which he lectured Barack Obama over Syria, as an example of Putin’s trollpolitik. He is an exceptional practitioner of concern trolling, and he has taken particular delight in criticizing Obama over his supposed military adventurism. Edward Snowden’s eastward defection with damaging American intelligence secrets was a boon to Putin’s trollpolitik.

Snowden’s defenders preferred to pretend he was a public servant; his leaks did, after all, win his correspondents the public service Pulitzer. But their arguments began to fall apart when Snowden made them look like fools by leaking all sorts of information that had nothing to do with Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights and everything to do with providing strategic advantages to the American adversaries who took turns hosting Snowden before Putin’s Russia gave him a more permanent home.

Samantha Power Still Can’t Get Foot Out of Mouth || by Yori Yanover

UN Ambassador Samantha Power with Secretary of State John Kerry. Both are reputed to be highly intelligent, and so one must wonder how intelligent is the source of that information.

And then she went and did something stupider.

This is as much fun to watch as a guy slipping on the stuff he didn’t pick up after his doggie. Last Sunday night, our Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power made the mistake of tweeting the tried and true official claptrap about peace and understanding and how we should all restrain ourselves and do our little bit so that violence will stop. It’s stupid, it’s entirely without any foundation in the reality of our current universe, but it’s her leftist mantra and she has no other, so she tweeted it.

Big mistake. Because the tweet came as her takeaway from her own speech as the guest of honor at a UCLA memorial dinner for slain Jewish journalist Daniel Pearl, and she made it sound, God help her, like the beheaded Pearl should have curbed his violent tendencies, because, hey, look how he ended up.

There’s stupid and there’s stupid, and this one broke the record for stupid, held, I believe, by Sarah Palin for seeing Russia from her house, and Alexander Hague’s attempt at a shortcut to the U.S. presidency with his “I’m in charge.”

The coming crash of American diplomacy in the Middle East || By John Bolton

Obama’s policy failures on Iran, Syria and the Israeli-Palestinian dispute will have devastating effects.

“[The White House’s foreign policy] initiatives truly reflect Obama’s view of America’s international role,” writes John Bolton. “His is a world of rhetoric and talk, not power.” (Jacquelyn Martin/ Associated Press / February 14, 2014)

President Obama has three significant Middle East diplomatic initiatives underway, treating, respectively, Iran’s nuclear weapons program; Syria’s deadly, exhausting conflict; and the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian dispute. Into these negotiations, Obama and his administration have poured enormous amounts of American prestige, time and effort.

Although rarely considered collectively, these three efforts constitute a significant strategic package for a White House that all too often hardly bothers with foreign policy. These initiatives truly reflect Obama’s view of America’s international role: His is a world of rhetoric and talk, not power.

Thus, Iran has not feared U.S. military strikes against its nuclear weapons program, and now, as a result of November’s interim agreement in Geneva, it does not even fear international economic sanctions. Neither the Bashar Assad regime nor Al Qaeda terrorists in Syria see any prospect of material U.S. intervention. And the main pressure being applied in the Israeli-Palestinian matter is against Israel, heretofore Washington’s strongest regional ally.
