Contentions Hamas Decision Overshadows Kerry’s Slur || Jonathan S. Tobin

Secretary of State John Kerry’s apology for his use of the word apartheid to describe Israel’s future in the absence of peace has done nothing to lessen the impact of this slur. The secretary’s attempt to walk back his remarks was long on umbrage about anyone questioning his dubious pro-Israel bona fides and short on actual contrition.

The aftermath of a taped speech in which he uses a misleading attempt to cast blame for the failure of his peace initiative equally between Israel and the Palestinian Authority is not the most appropriate moment to boast of his commitment to the Jewish state, especially when he has damned it as heading inevitably to racist tyranny if it doesn’t do as he says.

Kerry must resign

Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) demanded on the Senate floor Monday that Secretary of State John Kerry resign from his post following highly controversial remarks about the state of Israel. Kerry came under fire from lawmakers and a variety of pro-Israel organizations after he told world leaders in a closed door meeting that Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state” if it fails to reach peace with the Palestinians. Israel cut off peace talks late last week after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas formed a unity government with the terror group Hamas, which announced that it would not renounce violence or recognize Israel’s right to exist. Cruz said in a speech on the Senate floor that Kerry should immediately offer his resignation to President Barack Obama. “John Kerry should offer President Obama his resignation and the president should accept it,” Cruz said. Cruz said that Kerry’s comments brought him “great sadness.” “There is no place for this word in the context of the state of Israel,” Cruz said. “The term ‘apartheid,’ means ‘apart, different, isolated.’ The state of the victims of apartheid with which the Jews are tragically all too familiar.” Cruz said that Israel has nothing in common with apartheid South Africa. The notion that Israel would go down that path and so face the same condemnation that faced South Africa is unconscionable,” he said. “The United States should be aggressively asserting that Israel can never be made an apartheid nation while America exists and stands beside her. Because America will be with Israel regardless of the status of the diplomatic process.” The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the nation’s leading pro-Israel lobbying outfit, also condemned Kerry, referring to his comments as “inappropriate” and disturbing.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s comments that Israel will become an “apartheid state” if a peace agreement is not reached with the Palestinian Authority (PA) have been met with outrage, and his spokeswoman had trouble explaining them on Monday. The Washington Free Beacon noted that State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, stumbled when asked to acknowledge the offensiveness of Kerry’s remarks. All Psaki could come up with to justify the statement was that it was part of Kerry’s support for the “two-state solution” and that “many officials have used similar phrases”.

Kerry’s Apartheid Slur Sabotages Peace || by Jonathan S. Tobin

Last Friday while speaking to a closed meeting of the Trilateral Commission, Secretary of State John Kerry raised the ante in his bid to keep his Middle East peace initiative alive. While lamenting the latest collapse of the talks, Kerry cast blame for the outcome on both Israel and the Palestinians but made it clear that the consequences for the former would be far more serious. In the recording of his comments, which was obtained by the Daily Beast, Kerry not only repeated his past warnings that if peace wasn’t reached Israel would be faced with a new round of violence from the Palestinians as well as increased boycott efforts. He went further and said that the alternative to an Israeli acceptance of a two-state solution was that it would become “an apartheid state.”

Hadassah Mizrahi, whose husband, Chief Superintendent Baruch Mizrahi, was murdered on Monday, described the terror attack on Channel 2 television Wednesday.

“We were driving from Modi’in to Kiryat Arba,” she said. “At the Tarkumia checkpoint, we said hello to the soldiers, and kept going. After the first roundabout, a terrorist was standing at the roadside. Baruch shouted ‘A terrorist! Shooting!’ and pressed the gas pedal.”

“Then I took a bullet,” she continued, calmly. “Baruch’s foot was still on the gas. The vehicle started to zigzag. I took the wheel and kept driving, away from the terrorists. I saw that we had gotten pretty far away and lowered the gear. Meanwhile, the bullets were still flying by us and I told the children ‘duck down, duck down. Everything is OK.’

“Once I saw that we were far away from the terrorist I took a piece of cloth and covered my bullet holes, I called [police hotline] 100 and informed them that there had been a terror attack, and that they should come, and then when the soldiers came I asked them for a personal bandage to cover my wounds because I have to live for my children.”

Hadassah said that she understood immediately that Baruch had been killed. “He breathed his last breath and immediately fell on me, and I lifted him up instinctively.”

She said that she does not know where she got the presence of mind to save herself and her children from the attack as she did. The terrorist kept shooting, she said. “He didn’t give up, and I didn’t give up either.” Otherwise, she said, “we would all have been slaughtered.”

“We have five children, she said, “and they too will grow up and serve the country. It’s what Baruch would have wanted.”

Obama and Peres Polish Up their Persian for Iran’s New Year || By: Tzvi Ben-Gedalyahu

President Shimon Peres and President Barack Obama delivered their annual greetings to Iranians celebrating the new Persian year and played up prospects of peace.

Peres showed off his language skills – actually those of his speech writers – by starting with, “Iraniane Gerami, Novruzetan Piruz Bad,” which can be translated as “Iranian citizens, wherever you are, Happy Nowruz.”

Obama began his video greetings with “Dorood,” or “to praise.” It is said by Muslims every time they hear the name of the Islamic prophet Mohammed.”

Presidents love impressing foreign people with greetings such as “Shalom,” which they don’t understand not only mneans “Peace” and “Hello” but also means “goodbye,” but unfortunately without the connotation of “good riddance.”

“The Jewish people and the Persian people, the Iranian people have a very long history and we’re going to have a long future,” said Peres, implying optimism that Iran will not succeed to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

“We are old cultures, we learn history, we make history and we respect history,” he said.” We have a heritage of values; we are not just business peoples but two nations that respect culture, that respect human dignity. We call to live in peace and understanding.”

That is why brining Israeli flags is such a popular sport in Iran.

France: Muslims savagely beat Jew on Paris train || by Robert Spencer

ExterminateZionist

Hatred of Jews is deeply ingrained in the Qur’an, which calls Jews “the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers” (5:82), and says that they “have been put under humiliation wherever they are overtaken, except for a covenant from Allah and a rope from the Muslims.

And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allah and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in the verses of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and transgressed.” (3:110) It says that Allah transformed the disobedient Jews into apes and pigs (2:63-65; 5:59-60; 7:166).

It says that they say Ezra is Allah’s son, and are consequently accursed (9:30). And there are many other passages heaping contempt and scorn upon them. Analysts routinely think that attacks like this one happen because of the conflict between Israel and the “Palestinians,” but in reality the enmity goes much deeper than that.

“Arab men beat religious Jew in Paris train,” from the JTA, March 4 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

Everything we know about fighting international terrorists we’ve learned from 19th century legislation against pirates. Pirates used to be a serious security concern on the high seas, and the emerging civilized nations got together to invent a new legal language to deal with them.

It was decided back then that by virtue of their being enemies of civilized society, pirates should not be entitled to the legal rights that civilized people are encouraged to take for granted. They may be shot on sight without due process, they are not entitled to any protections and neither are their women and children.

It was a very wise legislation, which brought results rather quickly. The American and European navies launched periodic campaigns against pirates, most notably off the North African coast, and killed many of them.

I’m mentioning the piracy solution because our colleagues to the left, Haaretz, has just published a call by Judith Butler and Rashid Khalidi on behalf of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel, for all cultural and educational institutions “to have the courage and the principle to stand for, and safeguard, the very principles of free expression and the free exchange of ideas that make those institutions possible.”
